Southern Bone and Joint ribbon cut on rehab clinic | Free News

Local leaders and care-providers from Southern Bone and Joint Specialists cut the ribbon on their newest rehabilitation clinic in Laurel as they await construction to be complete for an all-in-one facility off Highway 84 West, next to the Sportsplex.

The rehab clinic is at 528 N. 15th Ave., Suite A, in Laurel, next to Mimi’s Bridal and CVS Pharmacy. Patients will be able to go there for physical therapy, postoperative therapy, joint-replacement care, sports medicine, dry-needling and return-to-work treatment.

“The communication, being able to talk with the surgeons on a daily basis, will be a really big advantage for us,” said Blake Sherman, a physical therapist and director of the Laurel clinic. “I have been doing this for a little over a decade in this area now, and I have never had communication this good with the surgeons.”

The improved communication will result in improved patient outcomes, SBJ officials said.

“There is no lag time,” said Dr. Ross Ward, an orthopedic surgeon. “Any issues identified can be addressed much quicker than you can in other situations.”

The group has been providing orthopedic care in Laurel through its office inside the MEA clinic for many years. The addition of a full-service rehab clinic lets patients schedule therapy in Laurel, too.

The facility that’s being built next to the Sportsplex is expected to serve Jones County and surrounding counties with all services in the single location.
