Jo Koy Net Worth 2024, Golden Globes Host Salary

Starting from the ground up. Jo Koy’s net worth reflects the decades of hard work as a stand-up comedian.

Born Joseph Glenn Herbert, the Filipino-American comedian started out self-funding his own comedy shows in Las Vegas, Nevada. After a disastrous comedy start and humble beginnings, Koy appeared on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno and started to make regular appearances on Chelsea Handler’s show Chelsea Lately!

In 2017, he released his first Netflix stand-up special Live From Seattle. Though he’s had a lucrative deal and three more specials with the streaming service, he talked about how it was a struggle at first to Salon.  “I literally had to go, and shoot it myself, and pay it with my money, and edit it myself, and then hand it to them after they already said no to me. Not only was it like that, but I put the cameras in the theater to shoot it. Two days before we shot it, Netflix calls my manager, and goes, “Hey, we found out Jo’s shooting that special. We really want you to know we don’t want it.” It was that kind of pressure. All my money in, all of it. And the only place I want to sell it is to Netflix, and they reconfirmed, “We don’t want it.” And so, we still shot it, and they ended up buying it.”

Jo Koy has also made his lead feature film debut in Easter Sunday with an ensemble of Filipino-American actors and is inspired by his own experiences in the stand-up community and within his own Filipino upbringing. He has also appeared in Haunted Mansion and voiced the character Bendo in Netflix’s animated film Monkey King. He’s set to voice The Monkey King in the animated feature film, Tiger’s Apprentice premiering on Paramount+ on February 2, 2024.

Jo Koy was announced as the 2024 Golden Globes host—marking his first time hosting the awards show ceremony.

“I’ve stepped onto a lot of stages around the world in my career, but this one is going to be extra special. I’m so excited to be hosting the Golden Globes this year,” said Koy in a press release. “This is that moment where I get to make my Filipino family proud. Mahal Kita (Google it)!”

What is Jo Koy’s net worth?

Jo Koy’s net worth is estimated to be around $15 million according to Celebrity Net Worth.

If Jerrod Carmichael was right in his 2023 Golden Globes monologue, Jo Koy will also receive $500,000 for his hosting at the awards show. The amount behind his Netflix deal is unverified as Sportskeeda reported that his deal is estimated to be around $50 million while other sites report that he’s receiving $2.5 million for 3 years. According to Variety, he signed a deal to bring his next two stand-up comedy specials to the streamer.

Koy is also involved with several charities. In 2023, he organized a comedy show Rise for Comedy featuring many prominent Asian-American comedy acts and in the end, contributed to a $75,000 donation to the nonprofit Search to Involve Pilipino Americans (SIPA). He also reportedly donated around 1.6 million Philippine pesos (approximately $29,200) to construct the quarter-mile concrete road for Alangilan National High School in the Philippines.

As to what inspires the Pinoy comedian daily, it’s definitely not money. “Man, the one thing I try and let people know is if you’re not passionate about it and if you’re not in love with it, then get out of it,” he told Salon. “Because if you’re in it for the money and the fame, then it’s never going to be real. You might as well just quit and find something else to do. I love stand-up. I’m good at a coffee house tomorrow night. I’m good. It doesn’t need to be the United Center in April. I can be at the Laugh Factory on Sunset on a Wednesday night with 15 people. I’m extremely happy because this is my passion. This is what I love to do.”
