After last year's collaboration with Lady Gaga, Barneys New York is making this holiday season all about Jay Z. Centered around the idea of both the store's and the hip hop artist's hometown, it will be a "New York Holiday." With interactive window displays, limited edition products (like the ring at left) and an immersive gallery space on the flagship's Madison Avenue 3rd floor, this is no small project, and fashion's big guns have been called in, as well. Jay Z and Barneys are working with designers including Balenciaga, Balmain, Lanvin, The Elder Statesman, En Noir, Hoorsenbuhs, Just Don, Proenza Schouler, Rick Owens, Stutterheim, Acne Studios, and Cutler & Gross on products that reference the Big Apple in a color palette of black, white, gold and silver—not unlike Manhattan's impressive skyline.

"With this project, Barneys New York and I were able to take the slickness, energy, and innovation of New York City and translate that into quality, timeless pieces," Mr. Carter explains, "Everything that encompasses 'A New York Holiday'—the items chosen, the amazing designers that participated, the windows, the design of the BNY SCC Gallery—represents a perfect example of a unique and groundbreaking collaboration that I hope demonstrates how inspiring New York has been to me."

The collection goes on sale November 20 at the New York flagship's renovated "BNY SCC Gallery" designed as a creative collaboration between Mr. Carter, visual artist Joanie Lemercier, and creative director Dennis Freedman as well as at Barneys flagships in Beverly Hills, Boston, Chicago, and San Francisco. In addition, Barneys New York will donate 25% of sales from "A New York Holiday" items to the Shawn Carter Foundation, which awards scholarships to students facing socio-economic hardships. It's going to be a chic hip hop holiday on Madison Avenue this year.
