High-speed chase after shoplifting at DG | Free News

A Laurel woman who was facing a misdemeanor shoplifting charge turned it into a felony and put others at risk — including a toddler — along the way, said Sgt. Jason Mills of the Jones County Sheriff’s Department.
Rosa Williams, 38, led JCSD deputies and Laurel police on a high-speed chase Tuesday morning when Deputy Xavier Thigpen attempted to stop her after she was suspected of shoplifting from the Dollar General on Eastview Drive, the JCSD reported.
She took off down Eastview Drive, then hit Highway 11 toward Laurel before finally being stopped by several JCSD and LPD units in the 2100 block of 2nd Avenue.
That’s when it was discovered that a toddler-age boy was in the backseat and 19-year-old passenger Zabbiana Page was arrested for disorderly conduct after the chase was over.
Williams was charged with felony fleeing, shoplifting, child endangerment, careless driving, possession of paraphernalia, two counts of no seatbelt, no insurance and no license.
“Pursuit speeds reached 85-90 miles per hour on U.S. Highway 11, putting the toddler, passenger and driver in danger plus endangering other motorists and law enforcement officers,” Mills said. “Great job by all of the JCSD and LPD units who participated in this pursuit and capture.”
Williams had reportedly stolen Gain products, medicine, toys, air fresheners, soap and a trash can from the DG valued at approximately $350, according to the report.
Williams and Page were booked into the Jones County Adult Detention Facility pending their initial appearance in Jones County Justice Court.
